Bowie the romance king

Posted on: Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006 at 8:14 PM

This is a beautiful song. Not a famous David Bowie song, its from his Deram Period in which he did his best Anthony Newley impersonation. In my opinion it beats all his other famous periods.

If you have never heard of this early period, please get the album. It does not disappoint! Anyway, this song is dedicated to all you hopeless romantics out there, brainwashed with that drug called love. Its terrible mental illness is love, and right now I don’t suffer from it thankfully..:

When I live my dream, I’ll take you with me
Riding on a golden horse
We’ll live within my castle, with people there to serve you
Happy at the sound of your voice

Baby, I’ll slay a dragon for you
Or banish wicked giants from the land
But you will find, that nothing in my dream can hurt you
We will only love each other as forever
When I live my dream

When I live my dream, I’ll forgive the things you’ve told me
And the empty man you left behind
It’s a broken heart that dreams, it’s a broken heart you left me
Only love can live in my dream

I’ll wish, and the thunder clouds will vanish
Wish, and the storm will fade away
Wish again, and you will stand before me while the sky will paint an overture
And trees will play the rhythm of my dream

When I live my dream, please be there to meet me
Let me be the one to understand
When I live my dream, I’ll forget the hurt you gave me
Then we can live in our new land

Till the day my dream cascades around me
I’m content to let you pass me by
Till that day, you’ll run to many other men
But let them know it’s just for now
Tell them that I’ve got a dream
And tell them you’re the starring role
Tell them I’m a dreaming kind of guy
And I’m going to make my dream
Tell them I will live my dream
Tell them they can laugh at me
But don’t forget your date with me
When I live my dream

Snakes On A Plane

Posted on: Sunday, August 20th, 2006 at 10:54 AM

I went to watch this film last night in Glasgow. The hype surrounding it has been somewhat remarkable and hearing about some of the lines Samuel L Jackson gets to say made me curious enough to check it out.

Snakes On A Plane is a fantastically stupid and awful B movie. However its oddly compelling viewing. If Mr L Jackson was not on board this plane, then I feel that it would never have taken off from development hell runway. Its a good laugh though and I recommend it.

The downside to last night’s trip to the flicks was not the film, but the people in the audience cheering, laughing and CLAPPING during key scenes. How sad they are. Really sorry folks, but maybe I’m a bit behind with the times.

Edinburgh: Worth the money?

Posted on: Wednesday, August 16th, 2006 at 5:40 PM

A new report has informed us all that Edinburgh is an expensive place to live in, and is one of the most expensive places in the UK with regards to the cost of living.

Edinburgh has a pub that apparently charges £5 per pint of lager. That means, as a light drinker I am still a cheap night out when I am socialising in the Capital. Two pints of beer and I’m easily amused for the evening.

If I could right now, Id move there. Yes it is expensive, but the quality of life ( if you avoid the run down areas ) is far superior than the West Of Scotland. The streets are cleaner ( only just at times ) its more alive than Glasgow, more cosmopolitan, the buses are cheaper, cleaner and most importantly, one can wear his hair with confidence.

I spent quite some time in Edinburgh and I never got called Franz Ferdinand.

The city is worth the money. Glasgow only beats it for shopping.

So, if anyone can sell me the benefits of staying in Glasgow instead of Edinburgh, let me know..

A moment of madness or clarity?

Posted on: Tuesday, August 15th, 2006 at 7:47 PM

Without going into specifics I did something today that was either a moment of madness, or one of clarity.

Have you ever been in a situation where you cant make things work anymore to your own advantage, or ride out a bad storm? That was me today. I couldnt do what I do anymore and decided to execute the escape plan by putting pen to paper and ending with my signature.

Time will tell if If I made a right decision, if I was too hasty. However right now I feel I did the right thing, and I am feeling liberated.

The future right now is uncertain, and I wouldnt have it any other way.

Casualty

Posted on: Sunday, August 13th, 2006 at 2:50 PM

On Friday afternoon I was called to the family home as my brother had an accident with a wet floor and a mop. As I arrived he was in a lot of pain and he believed he fractured his collarbone by slipping on the wet kitchen floor.

I had a good look and with my limited medical knowledge I agreed with his self diagnosis which meant only one course of action: Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Oh how I hate that place, I hate it so much that for sometime now I have considered carrying around a card which states ‘ In event of emergency please do not take me to Glasgow Royal Infirmary ‘

When we arrived to the Casualty department, it was as filthy as it was when I took my mother there on Xmas Day. You are greeted by graffiti outside the main entrance, inside the seats in the waiting room are shaky or broken, the parts of the walls are caked with dirt, and some of the vending machines are broken.

Welcome to the NHS in Glasgow.

People will say it is because of the type of people who frequent the department and I appreciate that. Why don’t Strathclyde Police have a small office in the Casualty department, where there are a pair of on site Constables? Maybe that will prevent the waiting room looking less comforting for worried friends and relatives of the sick and injured.

A hospital department should not look like this regardless of who goes into it for immediate treatment.

Finally, my brother was treated fairly quickly. Fractured collarbone.
