2006

Hmm. I was chatting with a friend today and it seems every year at this time I usually come out with the line above in order to raise a laugh, or to provoke a reaction of sorts.
New Year always interests me because all of us celebrate it peacefully, or high on alcohol. Our thoughts dwell on the year that is soon to die. Good and bad memories (the bad probably drives us to having those extra beers on New Year’s Day) are discussed or kept private in our minds.
Well. I hope everyone who reads this blog post has a good year ahead. A measurement of time does not change the person, or the life. It is ourselves of course, hence I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions.
Make a resolution every day until the long dark journey. Dont wait for another 1st Jan to make plans to change things or try something new. Just do it when YOU WANT TO DO IT.
The problem with New Year is that resolutions made hardly last the full year because people are focused on time. I am not, and many people I have formed friendships/relationships with have had problems with my train of thought at times. I wont go into that in depth, its boring and pointless.
Ive mentioned in this blog some time ago that this year has been good and bad. It certainly wont come into the all time favourite years of my life. However it has been memorable and I hope 2006 is just as memorable with a bit more of the good times please!
My 2005 will forever be echoed by the following:
“For me, it was never what I did, but what I saw, that was important”
(Scots mountaineer, author and TV legend Tom Weir)
Perhaps 2006 should be the year where I DID and SAW, making them equally important.
I shall be spending New Year’s Eve alone by choice this year. I will try not to get misty eyed over 2005, but I cant promise it even though I will be sober.

Yeah, I always say as deadpan as I can: “Another year closer to death”. No one finds this funny, yet I say it every year. Maybe they think I’m serious. Or maybe they don’t want to laugh because they know it’s true.

I have been known to say that too..
