Fighting back

Posted on: Tuesday, December 6th, 2005 at 7:44 PM

Well, it looks like mum’s remarkable fightback is slowly starting to work. She was informed today that she might be discharged from hospital before Xmas.

The Doctor also told her that the lung fluid drain will be removed sometime this week, and that the team do think that the fluid will return ( Which is different to the prognosis on this last week )

Her other lung is clear, her other organs are fit and healthy, and for the health gurus out there, she hardly has any cholesterol in her blood.

Diseased lung wise, she can live a normal life on one healthy lung for the rest of her days. So I’m assuming the other lung has taken early retirement and has gone off to cancercun for a long trip?

So now the fightback begins, how she responds to the treatment to keep her alive for a number of years is down to fate as well as her will to keep on going. We don’t even mention cancer when we talk now. There is no denial of the situation, but why should cancer affect one’s life even though there is no cure for Secondary.

There is no such thing as a true prognosis. It would be nice to think she could live beyond two years.

As I watched her devour a second packet of crisps tonight after her dinner, I looked at her and thought exterior wise she looks like she could go on for a long, long time. Same old mum. Her stupidity got her into this mess, but she wont give up or even let her cancer bother her.

I have never thought of my mother as an influence on me, but she is truly remarkable and an inspiration to all of her family.

Time will tell of course, and things can change. But why think the worst? We all carry on as normal regardless and will do so for the rest of mum’s life.

hi there. just tracked you from steve’s site… sorry to hear you’re mom’s not well. my mom had a ‘lung’ thing at the beginning of this year- something really odd- her heart’s in the wrong lung and her diaphram’s squished up inside it as well, so it doesn’t expand and her breathing is all screwed up. she nearly died on us twice while in hospital… traveling to see her for christmas! can’t wait… she’s a brand new lady, now. hope your mom pulls through like mine did. merry christmas.

Always amazing how the will to live or the desire to be somewhere such as a holiday or personal/family related event can bring out the good health in someone. I am very happy for you and your family.

Found your site off of wordpress, it looks great.
